US Military Radio Battery CASE BB-490/U Add your own battery cells

Up For Sale are on unused BB-490/u cases. The case has been carefully opened and the old Gel cells have been removed. These batteries were made in 1991. so if you see any being sold, the cells are probably shot. With no interior cutting there is a clear area of 3.87" wide x 3.25" high x 2.18 "depth. If you cut out the plastic fillers you can gain 1.4 " in height and 3/8 " in width. As shown in the last photo, as an example,  using 18650 Li- Ion cells you can get 16 cells with out cutting any plastic, and looks like this would allow room for battery protection boards, which I recommend. This will give you two 15 volt batteries @ 4 amps depending of cell capacity, which come close to a 2590 battery on the cheap. A good source for free batteries are old tool or laptop batteries,these usually have a couple of bad cells and that's what causes the pack to fail.
